Oliver Rey | A Birth Story

Oliver Rey - was born on the 31st January at 00:10am weighing 8lb 10oz!

I began my maternity leave half way through my 37th week of pregnancy and fully expected that I would (like a lot of the first time mums I knew) go over due. I had two and a half weeks until due date and fully intended on using this time to keep on top of housework ready for the big day arriving, having chilled dog walks and making the most of my free time by meeting up with friends for coffee and that's exactly what I did. Week 40 arrived and that's where this birth story really begins.

Third Trimester Update

We're finally here! I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and I write this having just experienced my first half a day of maternity leave! Baby M is fully baked and could arrive at any time. I feel both incredibly excited but also terrified at this prospect! Not about the labour as most would expect - that part I'm oddly looking forward to experiencing. I'm more terrified of the fragile little person who I will have brought into the world and who will rely on me to take care of his every need! That shit is 'adulting' for real!

Entering The Unknown

The Christmas festivities are drawing to an end and I find myself contently enjoying time off work and living those in between days before we wave goodbye to yet another year and say hello to a brand new one. As I sit here writing this, I am reminded by the movements of arms and legs in my belly, of all the change that awaits me in the new year. At some point within the next 5-7 weeks I will become a mother. 'My life will change forever' - is a phrase I am hit with often.

The Second Trimester

Tomorrow marks my 33rd week of pregnancy, I am a fair few weeks into my third trimester and feeling/looking huge! Which means writing up about all I experienced in the second trimester is well overdue! I've been rather rubbish at documenting my pregnancy and didn't make notes of my symptoms as they were happening which meant I had to rack my brain to remember the little things. I have learnt my lesson however and have already got a loooong list ready for the third trimester update, which who knows, I may even get round to writing before the baby is born!
